David Ward, PhD
Deputy Director, Nevada Cancer Institute

Dr. Ward is the Deputy Director of the Nevada Cancer Institute. Dr. Ward earned his B.S. in microbiology from Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada; M.Sc. in biochemistry from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver; and his Ph.D. in biochemistry from Rockefeller University, New York. After a postdoctoral fellowship at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in London, England, Dr. Ward joined the faculty of Yale University School of Medicine in 1971, where he remained in the Departments of Genetics, and Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry until his recruitment to NVCI.

Dr. Ward's publications include more than 240 research articles and more than twenty-five book chapters and reviews. He serves on editorial boards, NIH study sections and the scientific advisory boards of a number of biotechnology companies, two of which he founded. His numerous honors and awards include the Research Medal of the Surgical Society of America, the Eastman Kodak Prize of the American Association of Clinical Chemistry and the Biochemical Analysis Prize of the German Society for Clinical Chemistry. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, holds an honorary Doctorate of Science from the Memorial University of New Foundland and is a Member of the National Academy of Sciences.
