oncoFISH PTEN

oncoFISH® PTEN

oncoFISH PTEN is a fully automated microscopy application for the FISH based detection of deletions of the PTEN gene is prostate tissue biopsies.  Prostate cancer is the most diagnosed cancer in men, and in 2013 almost a quarter of a million new cases were diagnosed in the U.S. alone. Approximately 1 in 36 men will die from the disease and recently published studies identified an association between the deletion of the PTEN gene and a more advanced form of prostate cancer and earlier onset of recurrence. Knowledge of this genetic mutation, when used in conjunction with routine histology, offers great prognostic value. This genetic information helps physicians better assess their patients' outcomes and form appropriate treatment plans.
The oncoFISH PTEN application incorporates the ability to define the area of tissue to be scanned, based on reference to either an H&E or immunostained slide, which can be imaged with the included high resolution slide scanner. Low magnification analysis with a 20x objective identifies the glandular tissue in the section and undertakes initial assessment of the cells therein for the presence of deletions of the PTEN gene. Subsequent analysis with a 100x objective determines the full FISH signal complementation of the desired number of cells and classifies the cells for determination of the presence or absence of PTEN deletion.
